A couple of months ago a company named Ringing Bells took the world by storm by announcing Freedom 251, a phone priced at just Rs. 251. According to a few claims, the company had managed to get bookings worth Rs. 17.5 million. However, due to the negative speculations surrounding the handset, Ringing Bells had decided to refund the money.
Following on the same path is a Jodhpur-based company named ChampOne that has launched asmartphone for just Rs. 501. Tagged as ChampOne C1, the handset will be made available through the first flash sale set to kick off on September 2nd. The phone is listed on the company’s official website.
In terms of specifications, just like the Freedom 251, the ChampOne C1 is too good to be true. Let’s compare the two:

No doubt, when it comes to internal hardware, the ChampOne C1 does take the lead. While the Freedom 251 comes with a 4-inch display, the C1 plans to offer a bit more with a 5-inch screen. Both devices run on Android 5.1 Lollipop and are powered by a processor clocked at 1.3 GHz. C1 also sports a comparatively better camera and battery. With that being said, the ChampOne C1 turns out to be a bit stronger than the Freedom 251 is numerous aspects.

Although the C1 may look quite promising, it would be too early to pass on a judgement regarding the authenticity of the claims made by the company. Nothing much is yet known about this Jodhpur-based company. No doubt, they do have a website up-and-running, but the ‘About Us’ section tells nothing much about who they are.

Is ChampOne C1 trying to take the same route as Freedom 251? The fact that the website faced technical issues with its payment gateway partners soon after the registrations were open raises numerous speculations. So, we’ll have to probably wait and watch. If the company actually manages to offer a phone that powerful at a price less than what your t-shirt costs, it will truly be a game changer.
